[it's usually pretty quiet and peaceful during the "nighttime" in the prospero townhouse. even if all six toys present were up and moving around at this time, they're small enough and generally stealthy by nature enough that there wouldn't be much of a scene anyway.
that said, it's three in the morning when buzz jerks awake (? out of hibernation? who knows what they do, honestly), the soft green glow of his armour shifting on the walls slightly with the action. something's occurred to him, and it's pushed him fully back into consciousness.]
[what a shitshow of a day. it's been about three hours since the thing with fern so the effects of the... cure have almost worn off, but not quite. buzz dragged his carcass home and got into the hallway before just. laying down.
honestly. this dream sucks. when are they gonna wake up?
he rolls over with a light groan at a whinny above him, pulling himself up and putting his hands on bullseye's snout.]
Sorry. I'll be okay. Did you watch the shows Woody got...? [he asks, perfectly content to act like everything is fine. like he won't just repaint himself if his faded armour colours never come back, please. nothing to worry about.]
[jessie might've noticed that mr lightyear has not been very present for the last couple of days. that is because he's been laying in the mud somewhere. feelings suck, actually.]
So... Woody asked me about what we were hiding from him.
[You have been visited by Holy Mami! She descends from the winter night sky, presents in hand. She has a smile on her face as she hands you a gift with a note attached. It’s a homemade mini sewing kit!]
“Take care of yourself out there! Merry Christmas!”
[Before you have the chance to say anything though, she’s gone! She has a lot of gifts to deliver and little time to do so!] Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!!
[because of course jessie gets a gift, duh. it's one of those lightweight little stools that toddlers use, with wheels on the bottom, easily pushed, even by tiny doll hands -- he's worried about her and the other toys accessing their house, okay.
he's also drawn her a picture, on a post-it-sized piece of paper, with his sharpest pencils. it's a little fuzzy, but it's pretty unmistakable who it's of.]
[In an attempt to enthusiastically celebrate his first ever Christmas, Fern is covertly dropping off a wrapped gift addressed to Jessie from him on her doorstep.
It's a toy-sized machete!
Because of course Fern would assume a knife makes a good holiday gift.]
[ Delivered in a rather large wooden box is two perfectly crafted mechanical horses. There are instructions and riding gear that should fit she and Woody (or whoever she choose to share the other with) perfectly. Attached is a note:
Dear Jessie,
While I've been having trouble figuring out how to put the power of weapons into miniature form, I figured in the mean time you should have a better way to outrun those who would do you harm. Had them designed by brilliant minds and they are fast. You can also use them to just go out for a ride, cause Lord knows a cowgirl needs the wind in the her hair. You let me know if you need any help with them.
[he hasn't really had time to pick out presents for the gang yet. and besides, he really has no idea what you buy for toys. which is why he instead has the makings of a few presents lined up. the first being the large collection of cardboard boxes that have been making their way into the house, ready to build the city's largest dollhouse. eventually.
there's also a small addition to the team. while droney doesn't have any kind of ai, he does at least know how to follow commands. and, more importantly, has a direct link to karen. meaning, as he'll explain to the four of them, that they can get ahold of him any time they need to, just by talking to it.
oh, and there are also the plans he has for a toy-sized entrance so they have easier access to the house. something akin to an automatic pet door. because clearly adding tech is a way better idea than just adding a smaller sized door. but right now, they're just drawn plans that he'll pull out, along with a few blank sheets of paper so they can try and brainstorm some ideas together of other things they may need around the house.
look, as long as he's a guest here, he wants to be able to offer something in return.]
Found my Fluid; I can type in English which is what I suspected based on how it was working out in my head. Also, I got a gift from Sodder. Can I try it on you?
[...]
It's not dangerous or anything. I think it'll help.
[The solid blue string is the only one Venkman can't figure out.
Three red. Those are obvious. The solid silver led to Kim, the only person he's truly antagonized in his time here; the faded silver, he's sure, leads right to Walter Peck. Bound together forevermore from pure vitriol. A couple gold, one leading to Ripley- he can't be surprised about that, she's the only one who knows... well, she's the only one who knows. So of course she'd earn a string. Dana, he thinks, corresponds to a faded gold string right beside Ripley's- a matching set, bound by Sigourney Weaver- an actress neither of them are. Hell, the Dana he knew didn't look that much like Sigourney Weaver, though she was cast more accurately than he was.
The blue ones are the hardest. Venkman wonders if the faded blue is meant for his father, but eventually settles on Janine, instead. His father is less family and more... annoying obligation that gets him in trouble with the law. He's more of a father to his dad than the other way around, and if he thinks about that dynamic too much, he gets depressed. ... More depressed than usual. And Janine's like a sister to him, sometimes, so it's an obvious connection to make once he realizes she's not one of the gold.
That leaves a vivid blue.
He can't understand it. He can't figure it out. How does he have someone here who's like family to him?
Venkman really fights against the urge to follow the string at first. It's easy, especially given the effects of ADAM withdrawal- he's too sickly to drag himself outside at first. But eventually, he's having a relatively good day. And the curiosity is burning inside him. And at some point, it burns too brightly to ignore.
If someone's like family, then they're not gonna care about the red strings, right? About the one brilliant, vivid one that ties him to Ray, displaying years-old secrets like they don't even matter? He tells himself that, and it's the only thing that keeps him from turning right back around and hiding away for the rest of the month.
It's not hard to find the person on the other end. The closer Venkman gets, the easier it is to feel her presence, to pinpoint where in Rapture she is. And eventually, he turns a corner and they're face-to-face.
... Probably not actually face-to-face. He'd have to be crouching pretty damn low on the ground for that.]
Oh.
[Succinct and to the point. Somehow, Venkman is both shocked and not surprised in the slightest.]
[they've been back for a little while now, and buzz has been so horribly torn between giving jessie some space or hovering near her to make sure she doesn't make any rage induced mistakes. he's doing better, now his own... whatever that was has worn off. it had only been a few hours, but he had honestly almost forgotten what it was like not to have crippling self-esteem problems. he has enough problems right now, thanks.
for the last couple hours, he's actually not been around her. buzz knows it's insulting to act like she needs handholding just to get through the day, though he really doesn't like not knowing what to do. it's a mess.
so he calls her when he knows she'll react positively to what he sees.]
There's a deer come to visit in the garden, if you want to see her. She's sat down. Think she's planning on staying a while.
I don't know if that bird was you. I don't even know where your Fluid is. I think it was. A couple people turned into weaponry by accident. It makes sense that it would work the other way.
I won't tell them where you are. You do you, Jessie. Fly around. Maybe this'll wear off eventually.
[in between all the trouble going on right now in the town, here is one (1) buzz lightyear fairy flittering into whatever room jessie's in and landing with a heavy whud. he looks worried; moreso than he usually does.]
Jessie, I think we should talk about Peter. I'm worried he's spiraling into a bad place very quickly.
